As a part of its Platinum Jubilees Projects, Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Mysore started a 'A Special-support Free Education programme' called Viveka Shikshana aimed at helping economically disadvantaged school going studens with average intelligence to achieve excellence in their studies and life.

Broad details of this programme are

• Viveka Shikshana was started from the 2000-2001 academic year.
• Viveka Shikshana is for 9th standard(Kannada Medium) students only and will continue up to the time students complete 10th standard. Fresh batch of 9th Standard students will be selected at the beginning of every academic year.
• Both boys and girls are eligible.
• Students from economically disadvantaged section(who cannot afford to get extra coaching outside) only should apply. They should enclose their parent's Income Certificate. The family income should not exceed Rs. 40,000/- per annum
• The Student must have obtained between 35% to 45% in the 8th standard examination
• Students should not have the following problems:
  
  
  1. Untreated Epilepsy
  2. Distractability (i,e oneself unattentive and also causing disturbance to others
  3. Reading-writing difficulties(unable to copy from board, letter, words/reversals etc.)

• Students must be willing to continue with programme upto 10th Standard and parents must be willing to co-operate with the programme.
• Viveka Shikshana is being conducted as a free service with a nominal admission fee of Rs. 50/- only per student.
• Subjects covered in Viveka Shikshana are English, Maths and Science.

  2. Training in Memory skills
  3. Training in Study Techniques
  4. Training to improve concentration and attention span
