Swachcha Mysuru Svastha Jeevana :
- A peoples movement to bring public awareness about cleanliness, environmental protection and to spread the message ” cleanliness is next to Godliness”.
- A drive undertaken by Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Mysore, a centre of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math
- Inauguration of the programme on Sunday, January 29, 2017
Background:
- The Government of India undertook the “Swachha Bharata Abhiyana” , a peoples movement on October 2 , 2014. This day, as is well known is the day on which the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi was born. Gandhiji, as is well known had made cleanliness, both internal and external, a part of his Dharma and observed it all his life as a penance. This movement has set October 2, 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhiji as the target to achieve its goals.
- As is critical to all such programs, it is important to identify and seek the help of eminent institutions and individuals, who are renowned for their dedication, integrity, national service and leadership. Accordingly The Government of India wrote to Revered General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Belur Math , in 2014, , as one of the important and significant national and international institutions to help in the success of this national program.
- As is well known, the disciplines of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission incorporate “Cleanliness” as a spiritual discipline and on the basis of the philosophy “Cleanliness is a march towards God. From External purity delve into internal purity. From internal purity comes Jeevana mukti; spiritual liberation”.
- Responding to this request of Government of India in 2014, and on the basis of broad instructions of the Head Quarters, Several centres of The R K Math and Mission have undertaken this program and are rendering admirable service in this regard.
- The “Swachcha Mysore Swastha Jeevana” program and its inauguration on January 29, 2017
- The Mysore centre of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, namely the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Mysotre has also taken up in a significant way, this great movement of Peoples and National Awareness. As is well known, Mysore city has the hoary heritage of Cleanliness and as apart of a noble heritage that comes down from the Mysore Administration that extends to more than a century of Mysore Royal Family and its rulership. It is no wonder that in the strength of this background and vast experience, Mysore city has been declared as the “Cleanest City in India” for the third consecutive year, and is well placed to receive such honor for the Fourth year in succession.
- To enable the continuance of such distinction it is important that the Citizen of Mysore city are made a part of such national movement. For that, as a necessary preparation, it is necessary to educate and involve every citizen/ family/locality/ ward of Mysore city about the details of the programme, its technical details and daily and periodical processes; in which every citizen and family is an integral part that enables an efficient management.
